The folks over at WordPress released WordPress 3.5 on 11 December. A veritable Christmas present for bloggers and developers, WordPress 3.5 is chock full of new features and improvements. The most dramatic improvement is a re-imagined flow for uploading photos and creating galleries. WordPress 3.5 also includes a new default theme, Twenty Twelve, which WordPress describes as “a very clean mobile first-responsive design,” one that “works fantastic as a base for a CMS site.” The dashboard has been refreshed and now features high resolution graphics, changes to the JavaScript Library and a new color picker – some less-used sections of the admin have also been streamlined. You can read the complete list of changes and updates here.
So once you’ve treated yourself to WordPress 3.5, what’s the best way to ensure the security of your WordPress site? WordPress has named version 3.5 “Elvin” in honor of Elvin Jones. Jones played drums with the classic John Coltrane Quartet from 1960 until 1965, a group that also included pianist McCoy Tyner and bassist Jimmy Garrison. He also toured with Duke Ellington and led his own band, Elvin Jones’ Jazz Machine, throughout the 90s. Jones was so dedicated to playing the drums that later in his life, when his health began to fail, he would sometimes play while hooked to an oxygen tank.
